In today's fast-paced culture which often values the intangible, I create time-intensive, carefully crafted, physical work. My hope is for my work to remind us to slow down, look carefully and remember that we're parts of a whole.
I am fascinated and inspired by the matter – the roughness and smoothness of the natural stones, the gleam of the glass, the little brilliant crystals inside a piece of marble, the heaviness of a rock on the palm of my hand. My work analyses and examines the relationships between different elements and transforms them to build new harmonious forms and patterns.
Mosaic is built patiently piece by piece. Each little tessera has its specific purpose as it affects and modifies the others around it, depending on its tone, luminosity, and proportion. A mosaic is a collection of all those carefully crafted pieces viewed simultaneously, transformed into a new vision. Parts become a whole.
For me, a perfect world is a place where despite all our differences, we stay connected to ourselves, to each other, and to nature.
I’m a Polish mosaicist, based in Oliva (Valencia).
After receiving a BA in Integrated Communication in The Netherlands, I worked in advertising for a while before I decided to quit and to move to Italy to follow my dreams of becoming a mosaic artist. I learned from the best in the field and graduated from Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in Spilimbergo with a Maestra Mosaicista degree. Upon my return to Amsterdam, Aurora Mosaics was founded.
Each piece of my mosaics is handcrafted using a special hammer (martelina) and hardie (tagliolo), following the traditional Italian method. I make unique wall art pieces as well as private commissions and commercial projects.
